About Rosin

Natural resin is being collected from pine trees. The natural resin are heated to evaporate water and to clean out impurities.

Other ingredients are added and the liquid resin poured out into a form to get the final cake musicians are using.

High quality rosin enables a perfect bowing without scratching especially if the bow hair has a thin layer of rosin only.

Violinists and violists need a more dry or hard rosin.

Cellists use a medium rosin,

Double bassists use a more sticky rosin.

Steel strings can be better played with dry or harder rosin

Synthetic strings with medium and generally gut or gut wound strings with a more sticky rosin.

Rosin Should be removed from your strings, instrument and bow-stick (not the hair) after playing.

Avoid contact between hair and fingers (or other body-parts.)

Do not use rosin close to open fire. Dry rosin powder and rosin cakes can catch fire.

With very few students and musicians rosin may cause allergic reactions by touching the cake or inhalating the dust.

Untill now only Clarity (Supersensitive) is available as a synthetic substitute, claiming to cause no allergic reactions.
